Tiziano Falcone, judo 81 kg: “I could have done better”

“I could have performed better, I was too passive and I rarely attacked, I admit it, but my opponent also admitted having struggled, albeit being very strong, but not as strong as I believed”. During the judo preliminary fights for the 81 kg category, which took place at the Mostra d’Oltremare Pavillion 6 in Naples, Tiziano Falcone spoke humbly. A Rome native and an honours student (who keeps up with exams and has high marks all around) enrolled at the first year of Statistics at La Sapienza University in Rome, Falcone has faith in the afternoon repêchage after the match lost against South Korean athlete Moon Jin Lee. This is his first Universiade, but, in contrast to his colleagues, he does not aim at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics: “I have both feet firmly planted on the ground and I want to grow in this sport, I know I have potential”, says the athlete from Rome, who next year will advance from junior to senior.
