“The atmosphere is always full of passion here in Naples”: Simone Crescenzi tells his Universiade in Taekwondo

“The match against Ukraine went well, I managed to score a win at the golden point; the South Korean athlete, on the other hand, put an end to my 2019 Universiade, just like it happened two years ago against the Brazilian athlete who took the medal in Taipei”. Simone Crescenzi’s Universiade stops at the eight-finals in the 68kg category, which took place on July 9th at Palacasoria. “He had the upper hand right after the second round: after all, Koreans are the ones who invented this sport”, he admits. “He was one of the strongest and most fearsome opponents, the other being the athlete from Iran who had just gotten back from a Grand Prix in the world cup”, reminds Crescenzi. As a matter of fact, the winner of the final was Iranian Mirhashem Hosseini. “The audience’s cheering is always full of passion: when you are an athlete, you experience Naples differently from when you visit it as a tourist”, he adds. Crescenzi is currently studying Drug and Fitness Sciences in Camerino, attending the same university as colleague Roberto Botta. “In September I will be in Shiba, Japan, for a Grand Prix; then, it will be the turn of the Military World Games in October, and Bari’s European Championship in November” he declares while listing his different future tasks before heading for the changing rooms.
