“I dream to get to the final and win the gold medal”: Edward Gardeo Isaacs, South African athlete competing in the Men’s 400m at San Paolo Stadium, the main location for athletics at the 2019 Universiade, raises his hopes in light of his qualification on the morning of July 8th. The third in his heat and placing ninth in the general rank after the first round, Isaacs already thinks about the upcoming African and World Swimming Championships, a direct access to the Olympics. “This is a dream I cherish a lot”, says the athlete and Accounting student born in 1998 when remembering Tokyo 2020. “I have already been to Northern Italy for the Games in Gemona, but this is my first time in the South, and in Naples – reveals Isaacs – a city that I have yet to experience, but that looks gorgeous already. The ancient buildings projected towards the sky remind me of Cape Town: I guess it is because the sea looks like the ocean to me (Cape of Good Hope is, in fact, the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans)”.
