Thanks to Rachael Jaffe, Canada is the first national team to advance to the women’s water polo semi-finals in the Universiade, expelling the United States from the competition. After the score of 5-5 achieved during regular time, the role of the Canadian goalkeeper was crucial in blocking Denise Mammolito’s penalty. “We have fought during the whole match and we held up pretty well. As for the penalties, I managed to block the last one because my opponent had already shot a similar one during regular time, I simply guessed the right angle”. In the semi-finals, the Women’s Canadian team will either face Japan or Italy. “We are very happy, we respect all our adversaries, but it goes without saying that if we ever compete against the Italian team, they would have home field advantage”.
