Waterpolo, McLean leads Australia: “Now the turn of Japan, an old acquaintance”

The women’s water polo fifth place final will be played between Australia and Japan. Brooke McLean, the Aussie centre who scored 3 goals in today’s semi-final against China, has no concerns about not being able to fight anymore for a medal. “Surely, we were very dissappointed with yesterday’s defeat against Hungary – says McLean – that is why, at the start of this match, we decided we had to stay calm, monitor the game well and keep ourselves from getting carried away: we often get the upper hand, only to let ourselves be outdone and having to attack in order to catch up. After yesterday’s defeat, achieving fifth place has become our main objective, because it is the highest we can ever get. I was very sad for not being able to enter among the first four, but we are going to focus on this final now”. Team Australia, among other things, knows their last opponent very well. “We often play against Japan in test matches, both in Australia and their country, so we are used to their tactical playstyle. We hope we can stop them and use our power to beat them”.
