Scandone swimming pool, the Republic of South Africa wins the Women’s 200m breaststroke gold medal

Schoenmaker Tatjana Rens wins the Women’s 200m breaststroke gold medal, with a time of 2.22.92.

“I am very happy about my time. This is why I am here; it has been a  perfect chance to prove myself.”

About how she manages to combine studies and sport, the athlete says: “It is difficult, I had to extend my study period for one year, but I think it was worth it. This way I have been able to combine these two tasks: when I swim, I free my mind of my studies and vice versa”.

As for the next World Cup, Schoenmaker hopes to either repeat or beat the times set during the Universiade: “Even if I were not able to achieve this goal, I would still be happy. What matters is the experience I lived”.
